This Brother P-touch is the first labelling system I have used (apart from the Dymo embossing label system). I have found the P-touch 1000 a really easy and great solution to my needs. I have a multi-voltage power adapter (a big chunky thing with about six different connectors on) and it powers my machine perfectly. My only slight down-side with the P-touch 1000 is it wastes about 25mm of tape each end before and after the texts... I have tried to find a solution to this but as yet, NOT. It's a great solution for me and I would think it would work well with most people. The price is fantastic from Labelzone and fast delivery was an added bonus. If you were thinking of an entry-point into the world of labelling, this in my opinion is the best way to start!!! This machine will do the business...

I bought my label printer to label files and folders for my family history project- every major branch needs at least a folder and there is nothing worse than trying to make out handwriting when in a hurry. However, it is also very good for putting labels on things in the kitchen and elsewhere. The ability to switch case is very useful. I have to confess the instructions were not the best I have ever come across but with a little trial and error I got there in the end. For my modest needs it is ideal and reasonable for the price. 6th Mar, 2012

This machine is really easy to use and sits in your hand comfortably. Its great having the numbers and letters separately and easy to change fonts and capitals to lower case. its also very useful to have the option of 2 lines to save tape.

This amazing gadget is the most versatile and the easiest labeller I have ever used. In my job as an electrician I have used many labellers, and find this the best of the bunch. You can label anything with a surface to stick to. The instruction manual guides you through the different settings people require to do the job. For the price this is absolutely great. Has a decent range of options, such as fonts, backgrounds etc. and is easy to use. Range of tapes seems good, and tapes up to 12 mm would be fine for most uses. Tape seems to be very waterproof, I've used it on some diving gear and it survives going underwater! The extra-strong version is probably better for sticking on plastic. Only criticism would be that it wastes a lot of tape on the margin, it can be reduced on one side only (giving you a mark for where to cut to get it even).

The PT-1000 is a perfect little printer for simple labelling needs. It's easy to set up and operate and the labels are easy to peel off and change. The only downside is that it's maybe a bit bulky but it's not a deal breaker for me.

Easy to use once you get the hang of the instructions. I don't use it often enough to remember what to do without referring to instructions. Can take a wide range of tape sizes which is good for different size objects. I ordered a range when i purchased the labeller and I have used them all. Fabric labels tend to peel in the wash. Makes marking neat and tidy.

I got this as it was on a special offer thinking it might be useful, but not really realising till I actually got it how useful it actually was!

It has been used for providing long lasting labels on all sorts of things from marking plugs, boxes, cables in fact almost anything in a clear professional way. I find a new use for it every week, and only score it down slightly as typing symbols is a bit of a fiddle.

This is the first labeller I have found to do a good job for spine labels on CD and DVD cases.It is easy to use and the labels are clean and clear. For an OAP the price is OK.. Purchased as an addition to a QL printer and to replace a similar vintage product of other manufacture that no longer functioned. The two products have quite distinct uses and advantages and one will work in situations where the other will not. The QL is ideal for address or product labels and similar and the PT is better suited to semi- and permanent labelling of files, shelves, many forms of storage containers in the home, office or warehouse. The labels are laminated and will not stain or fade in normal use and will adhere to most surfaces if clean and dry and are better suited to situations where the labels may become soiled in normal use. The labels came in a variety of colours, with different text colours and several widths and will accommodate different sizes of text and some machines will allow more than one line of print. Vertical printing is also possible. The paper labels produced by other machines, including the QL, will not be suitable in these situations. The machines are well priced, competitively featured and most can either be run from batteries or the mains via an adapter (usually optional). For most purposes, as the machines are unlikely be used for hours a day every day, batteries are usually sufficient. They also allow a degree of portability. Available in price ranges from a few £ upwards, there is a model that could suit all, including schoolchildren, who may appreciate a lower-priced model shared amongst the junior members of the family. My choice was the PT-1000 Kit which was on promotional offer at the time, but any would suit. Definitely recommended.

I have enjoyed using this labeller which produces clear and long lasting labels for my garden labels. However I find the replacement labels rather expensive and they waste up to one third of their length by having large spaces at the beginning and end of each small label. This wastes my money too. P-touch 1000 is not able to be connected to a PC via USB, the P-Touch 1230, 2430, 2700, 7600, 3600 9500, 9600, 9700 and 9800 can.

Would the PT-1000 label printer be suitable for printing labels for the garden as it appears to take the same size tape i.e TZ231 ?

Yes the PT-1000 is ideal for printing garden labels. It uses the same tapes as the GL-200 and is in fact identical to the previous model the GL-100.   The PT-1000 uses tapes in sizes 3.5mm, 6mm, 9mm & 12mm.

What is the best way to peel the backing of the label from TZ-N231 tape thank you Brian

Thanks for the question, the TZ-N231 has a "split" in the backing of the tape which if you bend the tape it will reveal an edge which can be peeled.  

Where can i get new tape?

All the tapes for the PT-1000 can be purchased here. Please note that the PT-1000 uses all the tape sizes 3.5mm, 6mm, 9mm & 12mm. 

How many characters can I get per print? Is it only 8 as I need it to be able to print long titles or words

The print buffer can hold 55 characters, this includes letters, numbers, symbols & spaces etc

Does the PT-1000 work with battries? and how may if it does

The Brother PT-1000 works with 6 x AAA Batteries (not included)

Totaly new to a product like this but does it need ink or does the parer react to a thermol signal making the letters and words please?or neither lol. Thanx Amy

The tape cartridge that goes into the printer contains the label material and the print ribbon so each cartridge contains everything you need.  There is no additional ink and the labels will last years.
