5 stars Brother GL200 Garden Label Written by

Good Service. Found instructions quite difficult to follow, but sister-in-law has one so she showed me how to use. Really pleased with machine. Much easier than scratching name.

5 stars brother gl200 garden label printer Written by

Only had this machine a few days, not too sure about it. If the batteries are not highly charged it just packs in. Will persevere. I had a p 1000 previously which used more and larger batteries which were okay.

5 stars Brother GL-200 Garden Label Printer Written by

Excellent service, thank you. The printer is just perfect. Absolutely the best thing. No more faded labels! Easy to use too.

5 stars Brother garden label printer - good buy Written by

Bought as a present. Recipient was thrilled and said he was sure it will be a well used garden tool throughout the garden year

5 stars This exceeded my wildest expectations. Written by

I saw one of these being used on the Horticultural Channel, and instantly saw the benefits of having a waterproof label. Previously I had used hand-written labels for my plants. However by the end of the season my writing has always been erased or weathered to the extent that they became illegible! Having used the label maker for my intended purpose, I have now discovered lots of other uses, such as labelling sprayers with different chemicals I have mixed for use in the garden. The instructions are easy to follow, and I would recommend this highly to anyone thinking about a buying one.

5 stars Excellent service Written by

Thankyou for fast service, product was as described. Will do business with labelzone again.

4 stars Easy to use and configure the print options Written by

I had a previous version for several years. This is even easier the print buttons are larger. The mains adapter is better than using batteries. It is great for garden labels and putting labels onto canisters etc. The only problem is the waste of the tape because when it prints it always churns out an excessive amount of blank tape.

5 stars Just the Job Written by

Purchased this for my son who is a keen gardener and he's well pleased with this printer for the cuttings /seeds he grows in his greenhouses.

5 stars Professional labels for non-professional gardeners Written by

The Brother GL-200 Garden Label Printer is easy to use and produces professional labels for the garden that will last for years. Take the chore out of hand-writing on plastic that you know will fade in a matter of months and have fun printing your own. So easy, you may even let the under-gardener use it!

5 stars Brother GL-200 Recommended Written by

Great Label Maker, easy to use. Printed labels stay on to pots and plastic labels no problem, even in the wet. Instructions comprehensive and had no problems setting up the printer. Downside is that there appears to be a physical amount of label waster due to the space between the printer and cutter, even in the setting to save space there is a longer start space that is wasted. Very Happy with purchase and this was the cheapest place to buy it.

5 stars Legible labels Written by
Very impressed with the results from this labeller. For the first time ever I have plant labels that are clear and concise. I used black on green tape on 6" black or green labels. Smart and legible.
5 stars Brother GL-200: Recommended Written by

Use it to stick labels onto white plastic plant sticks. Very easy to use, with nice clear labels. Excellent value. Only minor complaints are that the tapes aren't cheap and the mechanism leaves 25mm of blank tape at the end. I trim them with scissors before peeling off the backing. A pity that the lower case letters don't have descenders. All previous plant labels faded, auto-deleted, or came off, so hope this will be a long-term improvement.

5 stars Excellent product Written by

Just what I wanted - easy to use and high quality.

5 stars Very good product Written by
I Have bought this Brother GL-200 Garden Labeller for my wife to print all her garden plant labels. She is delighted with the results and found that the instruction leaflet issued with the product most useful. We will also extend the usage to various household items.
5 stars Label solution! Written by
This Brother labeller is very easy to use and does a great job. Worth the cost. Service from Labelzone was excellent. Goods arrived safely and when expected,
5 stars Brother GL-200 Label Printer Written by
Used the printer this bank holiday for the first time. Really easy to use and great results. A QWERTY keyboard (rather than alphabetic) would have been a personal preference as a regular computer user. Great value for money!
5 stars Gardening asset Written by
I have been looking for a 'lasting' plant labeller for a long time. This is ideal together with the laminated tapes seems to have solved all my past problems with disappearing names in the garden. Seems to stand up to all weathers.
5 stars Great Little Machine Written by

Bought this because other pens and labels do not work. This is a great little machine and very good value for money.I would recommend this to any other gardener. The label has a very good adhesive on the back that can be stuck easily to plastic labels,

5 stars useful Written by

a very handy bit of kit

4 stars Great labels Written by

Great labels but only given 4 stars as found difficult to work out instructions - very complicated! End result is lovely label though so worth time persevering with. Want to use as plant labels & freezer foods.

5 stars Garden labeller Written by
brilliant item - very well received gift, easy to use and with clear instructions. Delivered promptly and all as promised! Thank you
5 stars absolutely brilliant capabilities Written by
This printer has absolutely brilliant capabilities: even better than the blurb suggests. You can mix lower case and upper case letters and symbols which enables you to produce scientifically accurate plant labels such as, for example, Ilex aquifolium 'Amber'.
5 stars Brother gl-200 garden label printer-a wonderful piece of kit Written by
This is the bets invention ever for the older garders , of which my mum is one. Se now know exactly what her fledling seeds are, so you know why flowers you really want. Easy to use with various font type. Best birthday present she has ever received, very user friendly
4 stars Garden Label Printer Written by
I also have a Dymo Letratag so was keen to compare the two. Very pleased with GL-200 and would have given it 5 stars, except that it is extremely wasteful of blank tape (approx 2.5cm either side of the lettering). No prizes for environmental issues but their tape sales must be booming. There is a 'work around' but it is time consuming and undermines the convenience of the machine.
5 stars Great Machine Written by
Still finding new uses for the labels it produces. In all it does exactly what it's supposed to in a variety of styles. Only time will tell if the labels are durable. My one criticism so far is the wasted inch or so at the beginning and end of the label which has to be trimmed off.
5 stars A must have labeller for any gardener Written by

I bought this labeller to use for my business to label up plant containers that i supply, with plant names and my business details. The beauty of it is.. that the labels are fade resistant and waterproof, with plenty of character styles/sizes to serve my purpose perfectly...thank you labelzone.

5 stars Absolutely love it. Written by
Wish I had bought something like this years ago. Easy to use once you have had a play about with it. Only drawback seems to be that it uses a lot of tape unnecessarily.
5 stars Brother GL-200 Garden Label printer Written by

This printer is so easy to use. Loading the printing tape and batteries is straightforward. The keyboard is well laid out and quite logical, I found it easy to key in the lettering and font size and the printing is quick too. I am very impressed with this portable printer and the print quality onto the TZ 231 tape. It will be used in the garden mainly for labelling plants but I'm sure it will used around the house on other objects as well.

4 stars Brother GL-200 Garden Label Written by

Only just received it. I am just learning how to use it. Have fathomed some of it out but haven't yet mastered how to do two lines on the label. Instructions not very clear. However, I must say that the service I have had from Labelzone is second to none and I am sure that if I contacted them they would assist me. Thank you

5 stars Garden Label printer Written by

Its great. I absolutely love it. Wish I had bought something like this years ago. Took a while to work out how to initially enter the date, but now that I have played around with it a bit, its really easy to use. Definately recommend it.

5 stars Brother GL-200 Garden Label Printer MY REVIEW Written by

I purchased the Brother GL200 garden Label Printer for a variety of jobs. It primary use will be creating labels for my seed trays/pots and various outside plants. This it exceels at: Once you have read the intructions and spnet 10-15 mins getting to understand the machine, using it so easy. The keys etc are easy to understand although it took me 5 minutes to work out the 'space' bar between words. Apart from that its very user friendly. It is also durable costs under £20 and is not too big and cumbersome.basically it does what is made for.

5 stars An excellent product Written by

Just what I wanted! I'm fed up with permanent markers on garden labels which never last one season. This is a very clever product and you don't have to be too clever to use it. Some of the instructions are not overly clear - but it's so easy to experiment. If you do something wrong, there's no problem . You simply try again.

5 stars Garden Label Printer Written by
I have used the printer and find it to perform very well. As the labels have not yet had to survive a winter in the garden I cannot say how lasting they are. I think that the printer itself is very reasonably priced however the refil tape tends to work out quite expensive to replace.
5 stars Excellent labeller Written by
This is a first class piece of kit. Easy to use. The buttons are big enough for my old fingers, which is an added bonus.
5 stars Easy to use to make effective labels but difficult to get sizing correct Written by
I bought this for adding labels on a yacht. Electrical Panel, Safety, Spares. It does an excellent job on basic labels. Formatting, spacing, sizing is more difficult but with patience, the instructions and using some tape on trials most things can be completed. The only place I gave up on was for the electrical panel where I gave up trying to do six double height labels as one label print, the joins between the six labels can not really be seen unless you get very close and shine a torch. The price is also lower than I have seen anywhere else......
5 stars great printer, great price Written by

A very cost effective label printer which as a bonus is very portable , means I can take it into the plant houses & print labels without the need for a computer & associated printer.

So far I've only used it for a few labels, but have noticed that it wastes about 1" of tape at the start of every label this could make it a bit wasteful of tape if you are printing a large number at once, so always have a spare tape at hand. Other than that I haven't noticed any other negative points about it.  Very pleased with it, the labels are moisture proof & fade proof (so far) but the adhesive could be a bit better.

All in all for the price it's an excellent buy hence the 5 stars rating

5 stars The Brother P-touch hand held GL200 Printer Written by

In May 2010 I purchased a Brother P-touch hand held printing machine. This machine prints on laminated tape. I purchased the machine to print labels to affix to blank white plastic gardening labels in order that when I sowed seeds or potted or planted cuttings or plants I could put in a seed tray, or at the end of a row of seeds, a label showing the name of the seeds sown and the date of sowing. Again similar labels have been prepared to show the names of plants planted or cuttings potted. Prior to purchasing the GL200 I had used other hand held printing machines to print labels but my experience was that these labels were not permanent; labels which I had previously printed faded, became discoloured and soon became unreadable. This is not the case with labels printed by the GL200 on laminated tape. The labels which I printed last year have remained absolutely clear and have not been affected by sunshine, rain, snow, ice or other weather. I would recommend any gardener who wishes to create a permanent record of any seed sown or plant ot cutting potted or planted to purchase and use a Brother P-touch GL200. The machine has an inbuilt permanent clock and this will, at the touch of a button, automatically print the date when a label is printed.

4 stars Great tool for the ganden. Written by

Pros; clear print, stable adhesive even in the frost, easy to use, and good that it keeps the last printout in it's memory. A must for seedlings as well as in the garden beds. Also good about the house Cons; Greedy on tape, as the unused ends are too long.

5 stars Brother GL-200 garden label printer Written by
Does exactly what it should do. We have found it reliable and easy to use.
5 stars One of the best Written by
Like many gardeners we plant many types of different plants at differing times of the year. Seeds in the spring, herbaceous plants a little later and bulbs in the autumn. We need to know what we have planted and where it is and this is where our Brother GL-Garden Label printer is a boon. We have tried other solutions some easy but unsuccessful, others better but very time consuming. What we want are quickly, easily produced legible non-fade labels and we have got it in the GL-200.Highly recommended.
5 stars Handheld Magic Written by
Perfect printer for all labelling tasks in garden or, in my case, allotment. Easy to use, reliable, cost effective printer. Great range of labels available to ensure your tabs stand out on the plot. This is my second season of use and I would not be without one. Can't recommend highly enough.
5 stars GL 200 Labels survive winter - shock result! Written by

I have been a vegetable gardener for, oh my goodness, don't make me think about it, and have tried all sorts of markers to keep a track of what I have put where. In February I completed my winter digging ready for the new season and found, to my happy surprise, some of the markers from my labeller bought last year - completely in the state that I put them there. No fading or running and securely stuck to the white plastic .As there are some types of veg I sow again and again, I will use the markers again and see how long they survive.

4 stars Great for seed labels Written by

This product is great for printing labels to attach to plastic seed markers. By the end of the season it's still clear to read, where pen or pencil has weathered away. The tape width is just right to fit on a standard size seed marker. I also use mine to label electric plugs around the house, so I can see whether the toaster or the kettle is currently plugged in and on! The labels are hard-wearing for this, where paper ones have perished in the past. The reason I do not give this five stars is that I find the tape spools a long way when you print (no doubt to make you buy lots of expensive tape!), so I find I need to trim loads off the end before my text will fit on my seed markers, etc.

5 stars Very useful originally bought for lacelling plants found loads of other uses for it Written by
The lettering is very clear spaced well and in bold print originally bought for use in the greenhouse to label plant cutting but used for labelling all sorts of things that are in the garage
4 stars Garder & Allotmenteer Written by

It's a great little tool easy to use and very reliable, had no problems with it. I use it for all my garden and allotment labels, they don't fade at all. We also use for all sorts of other labelling both in the home and at village events. I can recommend it.

4 stars Neat Gadget Written by

Great kit for labelling plants and versatile enough to do a lot else in view of the range of print sizes and tapes available.

The print-outs are clean, sharp and durable. The method of use is consistent and so easily learnt but the price is lower than MS Word + a computer, so don't be too surprised if adding symbols is a bit clunky and centre justifying two lines involves a bit of guesswork (the way it is going, the next model will have a USB socket!)

5 stars Brilliant labels! Written by
Once you master the instructions - they look complicated by they're not. - you will be able to customise your labels and produce professional, clear and informative information, not just for your plants/seedlings, but also for anything else which needs a clear, sticky label - walking poles, garden equipment and even files and college equipment. A roll will last a surprisingly long time and it is very easy to order more. I can't think why I didn 't buy this a long time ago!
5 stars At last! The answer to a gardener's prayers Written by

As a busy gardener who collects and propagates lots of plants, this is the answer to non-permanent "permanent" markers for labelling plants. No longer do I puzzle over blank labels where the pen has disappeared, the pencil washed off or the scratched-on wording faded. Print a super slim label, attach to a plastic plant label and away you go - clear, easy to read, and durable. As they say in deepest Yorkshire, "Job's a good'un".

5 stars Highly Recomended Written by

Great machine, we mostly use it for labels outside and they last and do not fade. I have used it in the garage for labels on tins of screws and nails etc so I can lay my hands on just what  I want. I would not be without one. I have had no problems with it whatsoever.

5 stars Invaluable Written by

How did I live without one of these! Labels last for years and are easily read and are useful in the house as well as the garden. They stand up to rain, sun, snow and frost and can even be washed.

5 stars Labels for Amateur Gardeners Written by

Earlier this year I purchased a Brother GL200 hand held printer basically to print permanent labels to show the names of seeds sown in trays or other containers and the date of the sowing. When each label had been printed the backing strip was removed and the label was then attached to a plastic strip for insertion in the compost filling the seed tray or other container.

The labels printed by the GL200 are permanent and have not been affected by water, sunlight or other hazard. I am very satisfied with the labels produced by the GL200 since previous printing machines which I have used have produced labels which are not permanent and have soon become unreadable.

4 stars How useful is the GL 200 Label Printer? Written by

Most importantly the labels remain clear no matter how wet it is and it has been very wet since the machine was purchased. The labels also stick very well and have remained in place.

I found that the instructions were a bit complicated to follow and it was often trial and error before I hit on the right method to achieve the required label. Having said that it is probably because it has so many functions and maybe I needed a simpler model.

I am sure that with practice I will find it more useful. There did seem to be more margins than needed at the beginning and end of the label and I could not find any way of adjusting but once again if I study the instructions there may be some clues.

4 stars Neat device with flexible output Written by
Because the interface is not a standard keyboard but unfamiliar and not quite WYSIWYG, there is quite a learning curve, but it is logical and consistent, so with a bit of practice it starts getting easier quite soon. The format of the instructions is not very easy to use. But for a small device, the output is very flexible and the tapes used give good quality results.
4 stars Garden Label Printer Written by

I love this product, I have one in the greenhouse and one in the kitchen. The only complaint I have is that the instructions are a bit complicated, especially when something goes wrong.

3 stars Great for the Garden but..... Written by
This is a versatile machine, bought so my garden plants can have everlasting labels. The labels are clear and stick well to the plastic label sticks. Unfortunately, it has the irritating habit of printing very long labels, no matter how short the wording. Reducing the margins does not improve the situation. Not only is this wasteful I end up cutting half the strip away to make it fit the plant label.
5 stars Garden Companion Written by
My GL 200 makes my garden labels easily read and a bit of fun in the making. I am preparing for spring and have labeled all my cuttings and bulbs. The more often this machine is used the faster the operater becomes. A very handy tool.
4 stars If this doesn't have you chuckling in your potting shed, nothing will... Written by

The Brother GL-200 garden label printer is designed primarily for horticulturists and gardeners (although it can be used as a general purpose domestic labeller) so if your potting shed is a bit of a muddle, the contents of that rusty biscuit tin on the top shelf a mystery, your tools rack in disarray, and your greenhouse liable to sprout something unexpected, then you might perceive a need to apply some labels. If you do, this printer could be the one for you.

The GL200 can print on three widths of label, these being: 6mm, 9mm and 12mm (from Brother’s TZ range of tape cartridges) and they are all resistant to fading in sun and rain, also to temperatures ranging from -80oC to +150ºC (which means they can be used in outer space), humidity, abrasion, oil and chemicals. Apart from the obvious options of black print on white label etc. the range includes such variations as fluorescent and transparent backing (standard laminated range) and matt finish, strong adhesive type, and flexi ID in the specialist non-laminated range. These ranges allow interesting combinations of character colour versus tape colour to make for jazzy labelling of your plant pots, seed trays, pesticide/fertiliser containers, storage racks and whatever else.

To make your labels even more interesting you can print them in various styles such as shadow, outline, italic, bold (and combinations thereof) and even in a choice of five fancy borders. Ooh, what fancy borders, I hear you ask. Well, there’s a banner with curly ends, a sweet wrapper, a callout, a wooden plank and a rounded rectangle. The standard tapes have a length of eight metres so they’ll print a good few labels before reaching the Autumn of their years.

The printer may be powered from a mains adaptor (Model AD24) or alternatively, to give it portability, six AAA cells (neither of which supplied). The case is designed to accommodate a belt loop, so if your pocket is too small for the printer you can dangle it at your hip while out and about. Very fashionable. Two further optional accessories exist; a replacement cutter blade (TC-5) and a tape separator tool — which is very handy for real men, who have short fingernails.

The keyboard is alphabetical as opposed to the ‘qwerty’ layout of a computer so if you are a typist you’ll be rescuing the occasional misplaced finger. The display accommodates up to 12 characters, each 6mm high, in just one line. These characters are only 5 x 7 pixels which can be unhelpful when selecting some of the 83 special symbols available. These symbols are accessed by pressing the Symbols key which displays the character range divided into 13 groups. Repeatedly pressing this key increments through the groups, while the left/right arrow keys increment through the symbols themselves. Punctuation marks, not being included on the keyboard, are accessed using the same key, which means that the label in the photograph needed this process to produce the comma. An accented character is obtained by typing the character itself then pressing the Accents key repeatedly until the required accent appears above it.

The only font available is Helsinki, there being three basic sizes (each with three levels of character compression) printable in up to two lines of text, mirror image if required for transparent tape. The GL200 can also print vertically for upright labels.

Print speed is 10 mm/sec at a resolution of 180 dots per inch, which gives you about 64 dots across a 12mm tape, making the sloped edges of characters slightly stepped but not unsightly. A manual tape cutter is incorporated for detaching labels once printed, and this incorporates a sensor which reports an error should it not retract fully after a cut. After all, long service can cause any label cutter to become clogged with adhesive residue.

Date and time stamping is available from a single keystroke. Setting up the clock/calendar is achieved, along with most other features, by pressing the Function (F) key and scrolling through the options using left/right arrow keys. All very easy and not too time consuming once you are familiar with the layout. Once set, the clock keeps time even with no batteries or adaptor. Equally indelible is the 300 character (9 label) memory. There is no facility for printing barcodes but very simple serial numbering is possible, which allows a single digit to increment from 0-9.

A useful feature, for when text on the label exceeds the capacity of the display, is a thing called Preview. This scrolls through everything you have typed and then displays the length of the resulting label. Another useful feature is ‘chain’ printing, which is a fancy name for printing more than one copy of each label. Chain printing gives you control over the margins each side of the text and consequently the length of each label, a semicolon between each label indicating where to cut. A less useful feature is the absence of a Feed button. To feed out blank label you must press the F key and scroll through the options.

In the absence of a CD I think the instructions are a bit minimal, these being a flimsy leaflet, and the directions seem somewhat abstract at first sight, but everything you need to know is there somewhere.

Frankly, if the GL200 doesn’t have you chuckling when you’re alone in your potting shed, nothing will.

Could i use this labeller to print name tags for the children's school clothes using a special tape as well as general labels

TZ-FA3 is suitable for producing clothing labels and will fit the GL-200 P-Touch printer.

What is the range of font sizes that can be produced on 12mm tape with this printer please

There are 2 fonts available on the Brother GL-200

Is the printer capable of printing on more than one line? I would like to print using a fairly small font size but have mulitple lines for more infrmation.

When using the GL-200 Garden Label Printer with a 12mm tape you are able to produce up to 2 lines of text

Hi - can you tell me the difference between the GL-200 and the GL-100 please?

The GL-200 has a larger display screen, apart from that they are very similar and have the same functionality.

is there any tape supplied with the printer

The Brother GL-200 does come with a 12mm starter tape

Is there adhesive on the reverse of the tape to stick the tape onto pots, trays etc?

The TZ tapes are all adhesive, they have a peel off backing which needs to be removed prior to application

I have a number of Brother M tape cartridges from an old printer. Will I be able to use these with the GL200

The GL-200 uses the TZ type tapes which are a different size, shape and material to the Brother M Tapes.  The GL-200 uses TZ tapes sizes 3.5mm, 6mm, 9mm & 12mm tapes.

The standard TZ tapes have the laminated top layer which give the labels excellent water resistance and ideal for use in the garden. The non laminated tapes (ie tapes which begin TZ-N) do not have the laminated layer but still provide a degree of water resistance if used in the garden but we would always recommend using the laminated tapes.   The GL-200 printer can use any of the TZ type tapes upto and including the 12mm tapes and would therefore be fine for labelling indoors or outdoors.
